Madrid ~ Finally Made It Across The Atlantic

Madrid, we finally made it across the Atlantic.
This year we decided to start our Europe vacation in Madrid. Vibrant city, fun and full of excitement.   We are so happy to be here. Beautiful weather as usual our city is ours to enjoy.

First things first, we took our favorite trip to “Mercado De San Miguel”.   One of Madrid oldest, over 100 years old, and most beautiful market serving local food specialties.   Iberian ham, seafood, tapas, caviar, chocolate, desserts and drinks. Truly, a gastronomy delight in so many levels.

Museums were next on our list of to do. The Thyssen-Bornemizsa Museum has an exhibition of “Balenciaga and Spanish Painting” . Wow!! The most devine couture from Balenciaga that connects to the work of Spanish paintings from the 16th to the 20th century thru his designs. The reference of Spanish culture and art is strongly visible on each pieces of his collection. Just magnificent work of art on both parts.

I fell in love with each pieces. The elegance, simplicity and the rich materials are mesmerizing.

All the embroidery is done by hand on silk with silk strands.

The Thyssen-Bornemisza museum had an extensive collection of Degas, Gauguin, Rembrandt, Cezanne and so much more. Unfortunately I was not able to take pictures of the artwork inside the museum.

Cannot go to Madrid and not visit the Prado Museum.   Prado is a beautiful old castle that showcase thousands of the finest collections. Based upon the former Spanish Royal Collection displays the finest collection of European artworks dating from the 12th century to today. Over 7,000 painting are gracing the walls. Rembrandt, Goya, El Greco to name a few.

Around about town… Playa Major

Playa de Cibelles

And so much more…

Did I mentioned food? Tapas, Sangrias and Cod fritters from our favorite place, Estado Puro across from the Prado Museum.

If you are headed to Spain, put Madrid on your cities to visit. You will love every minute of it.

Until our next adventure. Promise I will not lag behind so much.
xoxo
