Valentine’s Day Surprise Dinner

Valentine’s Day has always been great fun at our house. We always stay in and enjoy it with our son. Not as romantic you may say. However, fighting a crowded restaurant, with a fixed menu and a hurry service, I do not call romantic either and do not want to subject myself to it.

Each year I plan a wonderfully easy and super delicious dinner. Candlelights are on the table, music is low, table all set. Everyone looks forward to the evening. Let’s face it we must show our kids how to be romantic too. Isn’t part of them growing up too? Boys and girls, both will be one day in our shoes, so why not show them now how fun it can be to spend this day with the peoples we love the most, them.

Before I share our menu, and hopefully it will be your menu too, long ago I posted this, which is one of the versions of the St. Valentine’s.

The legend of St Valentine is full of mystery. There are so many versions of the legend. The story I was told was of a young priest and physician that served under Emperor Claudius II. The Emperor decided that single men made better soldiers than those married and with families and therefore he forbid all young men to get married.

A young priest named Valentine being appalled by this order, took it upon himself to defy Claudius and continued to performed marriages for young lovers in secrets. When his actions were discovered, Claudius ordered Valentine to be sentenced to death. A very sad story, yet so romantic to keep lovers together under all circumstances.

We all hold a special place in our hearts for our first love. The first holding hands and kiss.   I do remember the first present I was ever given by a boy. It was actually a necklace with the charm of St. Valentine’s. I still have it. The memory will always be in my heart. What can I say, I am a romantic at heart!
