Welcome November!
Welcome November! This is one of my favorite months. Cooler morning and evenings and perfect sunny days. We can enjoy our outdoors and that to us is thrilling.
Most of all, we get to prepare the house for the celebration of Thanksgiving.
A little back ground on Thanksgiving for all of you friends that do not live in the US. After the Mayflower’s arrival at Plymouth Rock in December 1620, the Pilgrims suffered a huge loss. Consequently, and thanks to the Indians, the remaining Pilgrims survived a rather brutal winter and yielded a bountiful harvest in 1621. A traditional English harvest festival lasting three days brought the pilgrims and the native to unite in a “thanksgiving” observance.
George Washington proclaimed it a National holiday in 1789. Furthermore, Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November in 1863 and congress made it a legal holiday in 1941.
A traditional meal including turkey, corn, potatoes is served on this day.
From my end, as the month will progress, new recipes are planned. Something not new to me, however, the direction that I am taking this year it will be. I am in the mood of experimenting with new flavors, yet not steering off too far from my comfort zone. Comfort zone that is starting to expand.
Most noteworthy, and absolutely wonderful during the month of November here in the desert of Arizona, are all our outdoor activities.
Because we have been cooped up, or hibernate all summer, now it is our time to have fun. Lots of hiking, as well as lots of open air concerts. Food & Wine Experience with our best Arizona chefs, visiting chefs, cookbook authors. Farmer’s markets back in full bloom. Fall harvest Festivals, Art’s show and much more. Life is back on and that is what all of us look forward when the last months of summers are here with unbearable heat.
Welcome November! We do love you.
xoxo
