Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is such a great experience.

Stunning in every way.   Abundant on wildlife roaming free and famous for its geysers, hot springs, mudpots and fumaroles.

Microorganism called thermophiles make their home in the hydrothermal features of Yellowstone. Too small to be seeing with the naked eye. They group together and often appear as mats of color.

Those microorganisms inhabit environments that are extreme, near boiling temperatures. Alkalinity of baking soda or with acidity that can burn holes in clothing.   However with Yellowstone conditions all those microorganism thrive.

Limestone forms Travertine Terraces. Thermal water rises through the limestone, carrying high amounts of the dissolved limestone (calcium carbonate).
Colorful stripes are formed by thermophiles, or heat-loving organisms.

Fumaroles or steam vent. Hydrothermal feature that has so little water in its system that the water boils away before reaching the surface.

And of course Old Faithful. A geyser with constrictions near the surface which prevents water from circulating freely to the surface where heat would escape. The deepest circulating water can exceed the surface boiling point of water.

Wild life roams around freely. Of course, all of us humans could not help ourselves from getting a bit closer than needed for that perfect picture. Exciting and yet so scary as a buffalo can be up to 5000 pounds of pure power of it decides to charge.

And then there is mama bear with her cubs. Cute as a button and mischievous too. Of course under the watchful eyes of their mom.

A bit fuzzy, sorry, but this cute cub was doing everything on his power to get up the tree. Of course he know he had an audience and looked at all of us with cameras in hope we would get what ever he was looking for.
