Myth 1: Shaved Hair Grows Back Thicker
We all wanted that perfect bikini body, but are too afraid to shave off patches of body hair. Or how about not shaving that excess hair on your lips out of fear for it returning as a beard? Anyone who has ever shaved off their body hair have experienced it returning a bit thicker resulting in this rumor.
The truth, however, is that your body will always produce hair that shares the same thickness with one another. Newly sprouting hair is always short and stubby, giving the appearance of thickness. When it grows longer in a few weeks, you will notice that the hair is actually just as thin as the ones you shaved off.
Myth 2: Botox Helps You Look Younger
It’s a commonly believed notion that Botox helps you look young as it fills up the places where wrinkles are forming. In essence, the procedure helps you retain your younger-looking appearance even when you age.
The truth, however, is that Botox prevents wrinkles from forming by blocking nerves around the face, which then freezes your face in a permanent semi-bloated smile. Once it wears off, unfortunately your wrinkles will look deeper.
Myth 3: The Best Skincare is Expensive
Out of all the myths, this is the one that is the most lethal to your bank account. We’ve all gravitated towards beauty and skin care products that are expensive and have been used by a lot of celebrities.
The truth is that how effective a product is will not be determined by their price tag. For most of the time, you are only paying for that product’s brand. Of course, there are pricier products that contain a lot of potent ingredients. This only means that you should be diligent enough in checking the contents of a product before buying it and not rely too much on brand recognition.
Myth 4: Staying Out in the Sun Helps Your Skin
And now for a myth that can be potentially dangerous to your body. Although it is true that the sun does wonders to your skin, and being a great source of vitamin D, too much of it can be damaging. It might kill out acne, but the sun also dehydrates and dries the skin. If exposed to the sun for several hours, the skin will be dry, flaky, and old-looking. Not to mention putting yourself at risk for skin cancer.
Also, the dead skin cells can block pores which trap oil. In essence, sun exposure kills your acne, but replaces them with new ones. Thus, if you have to go out on an extremely hot day, it is best to apply a protective lotion or wear something that will cover much of your skin.
